I recently purchased an Intel Prompt 80/85 on eBay and need some documentation (user manual etc). The device seems to work OK. I managed to input a couple of test programs from the keyboard and run them in RAM. To make the best use of the device, I really need to know more about its 2k ROM monitor. I'm happy to pay for photocopies and postage.

Thanks

John

Do you have just the first two ROMs in your unit or all three? The third ROM came with the unit, but could be removed. It added a lot of extra functions to the core monitor. The original system also came with a couple of ROMs of sample software.

The actual manual was mostly uP basics, only a little of it covered use of the system. I may still have one, but I doubt it. There's a good chance I still have a copy of the monitor source, though. I tend to hang on to any source I get. I'll see if I can turn it up.

The PCB inside the Prompt 80/85 is a standard SBC 80/10 board, BTW. If I still have the monitor source, there's a good chance I've got the schematic, too.

Operation from just the core monitor is almost identical to an SDK-85. With the extended monitor, it acts like an SDK-85 with a TTY, plus a hex calculator, byte search, etc.

From memory, the F functions were, from 0 to 7:
read tape,
write tape,
program prom,
compare prom to ram,
dump prom to ram,
xfer block,
hex calc,
byte search,
word search.

F Functions 8, 9, and A were for the 8755 adapter: program, compare, dump to RAM

The base unit takes 8708 EPROMS, I don't think it did 8758s (IIRC, I did those with an adapter.)

I'll see what I have, and copy anything that interests you.

Thanks for the info.

Do you happen to recall how to invoke the "F" functions?

Kind regards

John

Did you ever find any documentation for this?

The 1978 Intel 'Component Data Catalog' has 5 pages relating to the prompt-80/85. Just a first step.
