Hi, I have just got a Compaq portable and need some floppy disks to get it going, the computer needs 5.25 inch double density 360k disks, used disks are fine, UK seller best to keep postage cost down, need 10 or 20. Thanks

Hi Stone, can you make up a set of DOS 5 360k disks? And do you know what is most economical number of 5.25 disks to ship to Cornwall in England? I only need a few disks to get going but upto 20 used disks would be good, I have not used 5.25 disks in years and am looking forward to it.

I think you were right, initially. I just checked.

20 disks would cost ~ $25 to ship.

10 disks would cost ~ $15.

So it might be an iffy call.

I have these new plastic 3½" disk boxes for 10 - 12 disks. They are shown opened but close completely:

If you want a 5¼" disk box I have the 50 disk plastic boxes but not the smaller travel boxes.

BTW, those were just the shipping prices I quoted before. That did not include the cost of the disks, themselves.

Hi Stone, thanks for looking for the floppy disk boxed, but I don't need 3.5inch disk boxed, what will the 20 used DS/DD 5.25 inch disks cost?

Hi Stone, the new power supply and unburnt vdu card are arriving in 3 days for my Compaq portable, I would like to buy the disks for it so I have them on there way

Hello,

Just seen this thread - if you're still looking for disks, maybe I could help.

I've got quite a few, although most have 'stuff' on them, although I could soon empty some. Also, many of of DSDD disks have been formatted as 730k, so would need to do something with them. I've not got any ready to roll safely on a 360k type drive, but I could get some to be ok (wipe with a magnet, then special format as 36ok but using a 1.2 Mb drive).

Any help?

Much less P&P, quicker (I'm in the UK). I might even have a boot disk, but prob got DOS 5 on it. Maybe got something earlier?

Geoff

I can't help with the disks (I only have a few myself) but I'm excited to learn of another VCFEDer in Cornwall. I'm in the Bude area if you'd be interested in an IRL meetup sometime. There's also the Nova (previously Sundown) demoparty in Budleigh Salterton next month - I usually bring my 5160 to that, and there's usually a decent range of Acorn, Atari, Commodore and Sinclair machines too.

Thanks for the offer Geoff, but my Compaq needs some work and I am waiting for parts, some from China, so can wait.

Hi reenigne, I did not know about demopartys untill now, looks fun I don't think my campaq will be ready in time and I don't drive, is the demoparty yearly? I am planing to build some enhancments for my computer, the first is a smart serial WiFi adapter, second the xt-ide card and a cpu clock doubler or tripler using the nec v20, don't worry I all the upgrades will be plugin to easily reversed, it would be funny to take the luggable to a coffee shop to check my email lol

It's not necessary to bring an old computer (or indeed any computer at all) to a demoparty. It is an annual event (more or less, depending on the availability of the organizers) and if transportation is the limiting factor then I'm sure you'd be able to get a lift.

Sounds like a fun plan!

Yea, few demoscene buddies of mine did that recently, with their Commodore SX-64 machines. They agreed to meet at a Starbucks, to take the piss of the hipsters sitting their with their Macs and such :)

Lol sound like great fun, I think someone made an internet browser for the commodore 64, all you would need is a serial WiFi adapter, that would surprise the Starbucks staff when they ask for the WiFi password.
