My main rig is an HP Elite 8300 with an i7-3770 processor. The motherboard has three PCI Express slots ... a PCI Express x1, a PCI Express x16 and a PCI Express x 16 downshifted to a x4. I always had my GTX 1050Ti videocard plugged into the downshifted PCI Express slot, and a tp-link Wi-Fi card in the PCU Express x1. In this configuration, everything works fine.
When I shift my video card to the PCI Express x16 slot, however, my Wi-Fi card will not connect to the internet! There are no conflicts in the drivers, and I found out that if I change the wirless mode from 802.11ac to 802.11n, the card works flawlessly again.
I have to assume that the best place for the Nvidia card is the x16 slot as "downshifted" slows the card down somewhat, however, this is not great if it means sacrificing Wi-Fi speed due to going back the the older 802.11n standard. Can anyone shed light on why I cannot use 802.11ac when the x16 slot is populated please.
