Not sure if this is the appropriate forum for this, but i got this game to compile thanks to some old posts by a guy named Mark Lawler (thanks if your still out there), but this game is much harder than i remember it. I don't recall ever seeing a "monster zoo" or rattlesnakes that drain strength. Is this some kind of special hardcore version? Its noticeably more difficult than the CP/M version thats been floating around for years.

Rattlesnakes drain strength in every version I've played, but the game did evolve a bit over time, so it's possible that the CP/M version you played was based off an earlier iteration.

Yea looks like you are correct, reading up on some of the history and many changes were made. The rattlesnakes used to be called giant ants which i do remember, there aren't any comprehensive patch notes but it feels different and much improved.

I believe the rogue on 2.11BSD is the public domain version which was created after OG rogue went closed source(ish) in 5.2 or 5.3.
The output of 'v' command when playing will answer many questions.

The CP/M version is probably based on OG rogue 3.6, but it's been many years since I've played it.

CW

Note: The public domain version is the same as on Linux

V command displays the following.
Rogue-clone: Version III (Tim Stoehr was here) tektronix!zeus!tims

big thanks to Tim, probably 40 years late but he did good on this
