Almost 25 years ago we bought a brand new IBM 5170 at work, it has been sitting on a shelf for many years and as I am collecting older computers these days, I asked if could take this one home, and yes, now I also have a 5170 with a 5151 monitor and original keyboard. No books or floppy's, those have been thrown away many years ago
It boots from floppy, so that one is still working, and it should boot from disk also but it wont due to a battery failure.
Can anyone tell me what replacement battery I need and where I can get one?, as i life in the Netherlands it would be easier if I can get one nearby. i searched this forum already, but I am not sure what battery I need and where to get.
I already have the diagnostics image, so no need for that.

I think the stock lithium battery is 6V but I've found anything over 3V will work OK. If you can't find a plug-in replacement just solder the leads onto something else, even a pack of 4 x AA's is fine.

I asked about this at Radio Shack once, and the sales droid said something about the computer not being able to recharge regular AA batteries. Now, I've got nothing against the people who work there, they still stock a lot of electronic parts that you'd only be able to get through a catalog or on-line, and I used to be one of them myself. But I wonder about the minimum amount of knowledge the average saleperson has. Was he pulling my leg?

Also, say you had a 5170 that was missing the battery. Where could you get the connector? What type is it?

Thanks,
Sean
