I want to buy a functional Tandy 3820HD, GRiD 1755, DECpc 320p, or Panasonic CF-380. HD status doesn't matter to me. Amount of memory also does not matter. I would prefer a functional floppy drive, but that is not essential. I basically want a system that will boot and function.

All the systems above are all derivatives of the base Panasonic CF-380, hence why so many system types are listed.

Please send me a PM if you have a system that meets the requirements above.

I'm looking for any information about all the models Panasonic made for other companies, and all the models by other companies that were actually Panasonic /Matsushita. In addition to Tandy, Grid and DECpc, I've seen Ast, Zeos and even a Siemens-Nixdorf use an unknown asian made board. I don't know anything about it besides that the basic design was not made by any of the aforementioned companies. This thread helped some.

Tracing it back to the original Panasonic is the best way to go. Generally, if you can match it to a Tandy and it has an attachment for an external keyboard and VGA, its a Panasonic derivative. Some of them are white like the original Panasonics (Typically the DEC's), others, like Tandy and GRiD, just changed the color to black.

So I searched for a while on Google, but I couldn't find any information about the Panasonic CF-380, much less how to find a Panasonic model that the GRiD 1660/Tandy 3830SL was based on. Anyone have any leads on pictures or information about the CF-380 or other 386/486 Panasonic laptops? I can find only tiny scraps, I found a mention of a CF-380 in a list of RAM for sale in an old magazine, and I found a picture that strongly indicated the Panasonic model I'm looking for for Tandy 3830SL is CF-480.

By the way have you seen this? DECpc-320p-Digital-Equipment-Corp-PCP11

Unfortunately, you are going to find it rather difficult to get the information that you want. Much of it has been lost to time, or only exists in scans of old magazines, which can take quite a bit of time to go through. It took me some time to find all the related models to the Panasonic CF-380, and I have no doubt my list is incomplete. I suggest using the image search as well. You will be surprised how often you will come across an image, and find it is talking about a different brand of system than the one you were thinking of, and it turns out its a derivative of the original Panasonic of which you have never heard.

Also, yes, I did see that listing. Thank you for linking it. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same problem as the motherboards I already have.

Oh, you have the PSU failure? As noted in the other thread, essentially all Matsushita made boards suffer from the same fate. We need a fix... I was in the same position as you and already bought two laptops advertised as working in the listing that became unbootable within days of my receiving them!

So, my theory is correct, they can work correctly, then suddenly develop this power problem?

Look like we'll have to solve this, or eventually, there won't be any of these systems left that work correctly.

Absolutely correct. I have a third laptop, a Tandy, that was my go-to working one, and now its intermittent. I feel like I've been hit particularly hard, but then I look at eBay and see masses of non working laptops with the exact same problem. It's a gnarly issue!

How about the standard go-to for bad psus - caps? This is the DC-DC converter board:

If they haven’t been recapped yet, definitely start with that.

Looks like it has the same problem as the rest of them, some kind of post, no video.

Thanks for posting this. For some reason my set eBay search didn't pick this one up.
