Do you believe that tablets will replace pcs?

Doubtful. In the mid 2000s some folks were saying thin clients based on Citrix would become the norm. Then people said terminal computing would return. Now people will tell you everything will move to the cloud and software will become a commodity. :)

I do think tablets are cutting into PC sales, but they won't replace PCs entirely. People keep buying ever-bigger monitors for their PCs for a reason, and the people who were buying over-20-inch displays for their PCs aren't going to be satisfied with a 7-inch tablet display for everything. And a good typist is never going to be happy typing on a tablet.

I think some people intend to replace their PCs with tablets, but eventually most of them will find there are some jobs the tablets are great for and some jobs that are better suited for a computer with a real keyboard and a bigger screen.

I had a conversation with my first boss, who handles computer support for a college. He gives the staff a choice of a high-end computer, or a lower mid-range computer and a tablet. Most opt for the lower mid-range computer and a tablet.

I believe that laptops, desktops and pads are all eventually doomed, at least as far as the general public is concerned.

Better human link-ins will eventually result in a computer you wear like a pair of glasses. It's all just a matter of figuring out the biological interface.

A wearable DVD player came out some time ago and people didn't like it. Plus, the screen was way too small.

No, this one will project an image onto your retinas or perhaps stimulate the optic nerve directly. Sort of a "heads up" display. Really, the goal is to integrate the computer with the human. The current integration tools for input we have (touch, keyboards, etc.) are too slow and too primitive.

Consider that we haven't made much progress on input devices since the typewriter.

Tablets are great for people who just consume information, simple communication, and media (movies music etc), not for creating anything.

You have to relize that the job of most technology people is to sell the masses on the "next new thing" wether they need it or not, that is how you make money. If the market is saturated with desktops start pushing laptops, when everyone has a laptop start pushing tablets, when everyone switches to that start pushing full featured machines (desktops) and repeat.

Hey they got one of those 100 year old street clocks! We still have a few in Connecticut. I love those things, shame most sit broken for decades.
