    Pro 350 revival.

The RX50s in both of my 380s can be empty and they'll start. What's the manufacture date on your controller's 8051?

    Perifractic wants to buy Commodore

I first touched a Mac Plus in 1987 (my best friend's father had one), with a 30MB external hard disk. We got so much mileage out of that thing, did lots of games and HyperCard. Prior to that the only other Mac I remember was a 512? at a civil engineering firm. He had a digitizer pad as well...

I might take you up on that. I should have two identical cards here - I'll check when I'm back from the remote work site.

    Pro 350 revival.

I don't know if the battery is required on the 350 for certain, but the batteries in both my 380s are dead as doornails, and both machines boot fine. The ability to use a Flashfloppy with the RX50 controller seems to be dependent on the mask ROM version in the onboard 8051. It works for some...

    KIM-1 shorted?

The schematic suggests that a failure in either of the 7400s at U15/U16, or the 7488 at U26 or the transistor at Q7 (which doesn't seem to be labeled on my board), could cause the TTY to fail. I'm assuming Q7 is the transistor physically labeled between U15 and U26. However, it seems to me that...

    Perifractic wants to buy Commodore

Yeah, the original DCR keyboards are expensive now, like everything else. I spent more to get an NOS keyboard (my previous one was getting wonky) than I think I ever paid for any of the three systems I have in stock. It turned out to have a bad key as well, which I repaired using part of the old...

    Perifractic wants to buy Commodore

I have several breadbox 64's, but I use none of them. My preferred Commodore 8-bit is my trusty 128DCR. It's nicer and does more.

PC and Apple Emulators on HP 9000 HP-UX

Where? I've only seen the limited version, not the full version (the full version for Solaris has circulated). The PBook runs 11.00, but I've had no problem coercing 10.x and even 9.x binaries to run on it.

    KIM-1 shorted?

Maybe. I ran it this morning for an hour and got no repeats. The TTY is bad, but that was known (the LED and keypad work and are serviced by the same RRIOT, so I don't think it's that, probably one of the downstream components).

PC and Apple Emulators on HP 9000 HP-UX

SoftWindows actually recompiled various Windows components for the host system (using WISE), so it had rather good performance for the time. I've not seen a full version of MAE for HP-UX personally, though. Would love to have it, the PrecisionBook would be ideal (a B160L in a Tadpole case).

    KIM-1 shorted?

After I calmed down and hooked it back up again a couple hours later, it runs, passes all of Dwight's tests, and the smell is gone. I might burn it in for a little bit just for confidence but I (fortunately) can't replicate what happened earlier. I really am wondering if there's an intermittent...

    KIM-1 shorted?

(and since it seemed to happen when I reconnected power, I'm worried that somehow +12 got shorted onto +5 or something like that)

    KIM-1 shorted?

Working on my pre-ROR KIM Rev A tonight and when I reconnected the power, I smelled something bad and it went crazy. I immediately powered it off and plugged in Dwight's debug board. The lowest level test will flash the LEDs, but weakly, and I'm noticing the power supply LED also pulsing at the...

Yup, got that from one of your screenshots (and the "stop" login as well).

    KIM-1 troubleshooting

Strongly suspect RAM (mine had similar symptoms which was cured when I narrowed down which one was faulty). KIMs are notorious for failing RAM chips. Dwight's debug board is absolutely worth building - it will sort out a lot of this stuff very quickly. You can try piggybacking the RAM, but...
