Another question about the IBM PS/2 25...

Could be the original poster used a cold unit from storage in a humid area and water condensed causing a short. Leaving a unit sit to reach room temperature to allow condensation to evaporate is a good idea. That or mental issues. ;)

the pages i've read all say to let it sit for a few hours before first power-up. i guess PS/2 25 parts don't like working in anything other than room temp?

I thought many CRTs had that instruction. Since the Model 25 placed everything in one compact area, having a very cold component near components generating a lot of heat increases the chances of component failure. It won't always fail but I used to wait overnight before starting a system up for the first time.

The only thing I've had experience with that needed that was a Xybernaut (wearable) that wouldn't boot despite being plugged in. Support suggested I leave it plugged in for an hour to recharge the internal battery on the motherboard (not the removable battery) which is something I was previously unaware of. I'm still a little confused about it to be honest but it did work.

On a desktop I would think it might be copy and paste syndrome that many people heard or read and others repeated but I can't speak from experience.
