Anybody know which DOS/Win3.x drivers work with the Q500 optical serial port mouse?

I just picked out one of these on Ebay. Do any of you have experience getting it to work?

If it is a serial mouse, it should work with the same driver as any other serial mouse. The driver has no idea whether movement is tracked using a ball or by optical sensors. The resulting data sent over serial is the same.

Most serial mice used either Microsoft protocol, or Mouse Systems protocol. If it has 3 buttons, I would start with Mouse Systems, and maybe give Logitech a try. Some later generic DOS mouse drivers could auto detect.

Mouse Systems cannot be autodetected, Microsoft can be. So if your driver detects a Mouse Systems type and it doesn't work, you might have a hardware problem to diagnose first.

For the record: a Microsoft mouse can have a 3rd button as well.

Just use CuteMouse - it will take care of whatever protocol the mouse is using.
