C64 needs VIC chip

Hi all, I have a couple of C64's in need of the VIC II 6567 chip. Since these are long boards, the VIC II 8582 would also work. I can find PAL versions, but not many NTSC.
I checked out the KWARI replacement, but no info on yet on when they will begin on the NTSC version.

The Kawari replaces both the PAL and NTSC version of the VIC-II. The big problem right now simply supply of the board. I am in the same boat (my 326298 Rev A board has a dead 6567R56A). I have heard that there may be additional supply available from the UK distributor sometime in December.

I have a NTSC Kawari. They are available.

Both mini and large boards no longer available at the developer's Shopify (and my understanding is that he does not intend to sell any more via that site), and VGP (the UK distributor) is out of stock of both, at least for now. I'm checking every week or so to see if VGP gets more stock, because more boards are supposedly on the way.

Is there some other source of the boards? I don't believe he's released the Gerbers or BOM for the PCB, only the HDL source.
 
The developer produces them in batches, if one is out now, there should be more soon. There is a discord page you an keep up to date with the information on.
 
Thanks Robert, but I already got the ceramic version from him, it, unfortunately is also foobar, I'm trying to get it returned now as we speak.....
I will also accept a 8562 - it is the C64c version, I'm told just replace pin 13 12v with 5v and your good to go - but alas, no 8562's to be found anywhere I look...:cry:

It seems the Shopify store in the US isn't planning on making new batches so VGP in Ireland is the only option apart from Ebay.

Just an odd question, but do you know if the C64 in question works when you put in a known working VC-ii? I just ask because the seller is listing them as tested on the auction, and with multiple failing I was just wondering before you spend to much on replacement chips.
 
Yes, it does fail as I have two boards of the same version, of which one has a bad VIC, swapped all configurations on both boards and used diagnostics cartridge and with my good VIC, they worked perfectly, even using a 1541 loading programs and running, and a cassette loading different programs with no errors so I am convinced that the chip was bad. It behaved with the same symptoms in both boards.
Just to be fair, I sent photos of the failed chip while in my machine, and I did point out about "TESTED/WORKING" in the header and the seller agreed to accepting the return even though his listing states NO RETURNS.
There are fair people on eVilbay after all.....I just have to wait for the refund now.

At this point, I would pay what they ask if only I could find one, the mini appears to be an excellent replacement from what I can read and vids I've seen.....actually I'd buy two.....
 
I get it. Its amazing to have a replacement finally. Luckily I dont need one yet but Id still like to get one just in case and to play around with.

Can you clue me as to where on the site to preorder or do I keep checking in? I also went on DISCORD but no answer there either... :cry:

If you paid via PayPal, that is a legit challenge. He advertised it as tested and working and you got it otherwise. I have had to do that before and PayPal is pretty good at holding sellers to the terms. That buyer may blacklist you, but VIC-ii's are not cheat
