Hi,

what did Sierra/Lucas do when porting stuff to the mac :(

As I posted before. I am using a LC475 with OS 7.1.3 and 24Bit Adressing. (Apple2-Card)

Any idea why I have so much trouble with old Adventures on my machine?

- Space-Quest I and II (they do not run correctly, even if changing to b/w (i get many different windows but I can't see anything)
- Space-Quest III (no fullscreen, black out of the Desktop available, runs way to fast in the intro (music/video)
- Space-Quest IV (needed a patch for the date after xx/1993 ? and with this patch it does not run either if the date is actual. So I did have to change it to 1992)
- Monkey1/2/Loom/Indy4 no MT-32 Support, music does not sound good :(

:(

Thx, MT-32 is much better then Onboard-Sound.
I have 10MB Ram because of 24Bit-Adressing currently on. The machine has 32Mb+4MB onboard.

Keep in mind that the Mac only has a simple DAC, no FM chip whatsoever. MIDI is emulated through QuickTime. It can sound quite good (in Descent II for example), but most of the time it doesn't. That's why most later games converted for the Mac use CD audio for music or have the music sampled.

My LC475 has an Apple2e card but I don't have any software for it. I also have no Adtpro-Cable in order to transfer software to it.
Is there any way to use the LC475 and transfer software to the ProDos-Partition I created?
Therefore I don't have to use DSK-Images. I have to use "HD-Installed-Software" and transfer it to the Prodos-Partiton.

Thx
Doc!

Space Quest 1 and 2 were designed to run on a Compact Mac or Mac II under System 6 and have issues with anything faster than 16MHZ 68030. None of the AGI games work correctly on faster machines. They also have various forms of annoying copy protection.

Space Quest III also has speed issues but it's playable

The date issue with Mac SCI1 games like SQIV is well known and annoying but not too big a deal IMHO

Loom and Indy3 have 4 voice sound, Monkey 2 and Indy 4 actually take advantage of your 8 bit stereo sound. The first two sound like an early Casio synth limited to 4 channels of MIDI, the last two sound pretty good because of Quicktime's licensed Roland samples but not as good as a real Roland.

I haven't tried it but it may be possible to direct Quicktime's MIDI output to an MT-32 or external Roland Sound Canvas, even if the game doesn't directly support the device. I think the Quicktime 2 beta allowed this, then Apple dropped it for a few versions, then allowed it again in like QT 5 or so.
