Recapping:
- Note that if your IBM XT ever displays 'C0000 ROM' or 'D0000 ROM' or 'E0000 ROM', or something like that, it is a ROM error, and it needs to be investigated, because something is wrong. Yes, it would have been good if IBM had appended the word 'error' after the 'ROM' bit. Multiple possibilities, but for example, I can provoke a 'E0000 ROM' error by having both my XT-IDE and XT-FDC cards set to have the ROM start at address E0000 (i.e. there is an address conflict).
- It is noted that you see the "
Press F2 to run ..." message when the subject card is in your DTK XT clone. The problem is somehow related to the IBM 5150.
- I see that the last suggestion was for you to reflash the BIOS on the subject card. Discussed in post numbers 51 through 54. You have not indicated that you tried that.
I now have an xt-ide and xt-fdc set as d0000 and e0000 respectively. The system boots but no f2 screen appears for the xt-fdc, goes on to boot from the hdd and A: fdd is accessible.
Based on the thread title, you do not have an XT-FDC card. You have a 'ISA Floppy Disk and Serial Controller' card. Best to refer to the card as that so as not to cause confusion. What is common between the cards is the BIOS: Sergey's Multi-Floppy BIOS (see [
here]).
With the xt-ide removed, the system boots to A: drive without the F2 screen.
And confirm again that:
- You are seeing Sergey's Multi-Floppy BIOS display its banner okay - see [
here].
- The bit that is not happening is 1. the screen then clears, then 2. at the top of the screen, "
Press F2 to run ..." message displayed.
So, is that
with only two cards fitted in your IBM 5150, the CGA card and the 'ISA Floppy Disk and Serial Controller' ?
