Folks,

I’ve got a gorgeous 5170 (in original boxes, no less!) that won’t power on with the main board attached to the PSU. The PSU itself is fine, as are the HDD and FDD. I’m suspecting one or more shorted tantalum caps, as is standard.

Does anyone have a list of all the tantalums, with values, and any other standard replacement parts? I’d like to have the whole set before I start repairing, so I don’t have to wait for parts while I work.

Thanks!

tantalum info at the link below ... you only need to remove (or replace) the bad one(s). You can determine the bad one by using a multi-meter to test which power rail is affected and deducing from there. Good luck!

Yep, indeed! I was just hoping someone had an exact count of the total number of caps for each MB version. No big deal, I just ordered a bunch of tants from Mouser, so I’ll be able to replace as many as are needed.
