I need to replace the term resistors on an Adaptec AHA-1742A. I have the new resistors and they are marked as to which one is pin 1. However, there is no marking on the PCB indicating which direction they should go in. Does it matter? If so, anybody familiar with this particular board? Thanks!

Yep, it matters! Usually you can tell which one is pin 1 in the SIP socket by looking at the traces on the bottom/top. All but one should go to pins on the SCSI connector. The one that doesn't is pin 1.

And often the pin 1 pad is square while the rest are round.
