i've been wanting to get a sound card for my PS/2 8580, but i don't know if they ever made any kind of sound card for the MCA bus. was anything ever available for it? preferably SB-compatible.

There was models by several manufacturers, including two true Soundblaster versions, however they tend to be one of the rarer options on PS/2s...

earlier this year a couple of mca sound cards sold on ebay.. iirc they went for over $200 each. i got mine (original ibm card.. audiovation) quite a while ago for around $70 and thought that was a steep (and outlandish) price.. it was in the original (shop worn) box with most of the accessories though... seems mca sound cards are hard to find.

wow! that's crazy.

Yeah, all the MCA sound cards I have seen sell have gone for some insane pricing. I never saw someone so desperate to get sound on a PS/2. I was lucky to find a Crystal-chipset MCA sound card hiding in an RS/6000.

But did you get it working in a PS/2? You are referring to the "Ultimedia" card (http://ibmmuseum.com/ohlandl/RS6000/rs6000_7-6.html), and those thinking it is an option need to read over information on the comp.sys.ibm.ps2.hardware newsgroup. We wouldn't want to give the impression this works in a PS/2 without fail.

Like I said, he didn't use enough keywords that most of us might search for!

Nice. Yeah, I only remember going up to maybe the Sound Blaster Pro on MCA before Creative Labs gave up. Adlib might have had something too, but that's all I remember.

You bid less than $10? Heck, if I would have seen that I would have gladly bid at least 4 times that...

I have a MCA soundcard and I am cheap! If I didnt have one I would have put in a bigger bid, but still not $40, another cheap one will come around again sooner or later.

It looks like the one I've got up (ends today) might go for a reasonable price -- not too many people watching it. Of course, this is the slow time of year for eBay, at least in the electronics/vintage computers world.

What was the title of your auction? I went through every possible combination that makes sense to me just now and it didn't return any results...

"Creative SoundBlaster Pro 2 MCV MicroChannel MCA PS/2"...I think failure to include "sound card" in the title is what's kept it low.
