Mitac 286 with useful files

Hi guys,

I picked up a cool 286 last week, a Mitac with an AST RAM card that has 4MB installed. It has the drivers installed and working - and I wanted to post the files in case anyone can use them. (Or modem7 wants to put them on his AWESOME web page!)

When I got it, the CMOS battery was dead and it wouldn't boot from the HDD. After an adventure using AA batteries and using FTP on my 486 to get GSETUP onto a 5.25" disk, I guessed the hard drive type and got it to boot. On the hard drive was the original setup program... fit for "Phoenix 80286 ROM BIOS version 3.07" - there's a good searchable term for future reference

I could not find any other Phoenix BIOS for 286 on either modem7's site or the linked russian site. So paired with the setup utility it would be interesting addition to the archive. You could dump your BIOS with utility linked here

What model of AST card is that?

Also, what does the Phoenix setup do? Or is that just a dump of the BIOS?

I dumped the ROM's, file attached here: View attachment PH307.zip
The link on the first post of this thread is the CMOS setup program - it runs through a series of questions to set the CMOS settings.

Below are pics of the AST Card. It's a 'Rampage Plus 286'


Also, some of you might remember the 286 I found on hard rubbish at Christmas (thread here) - I have dumped the ROMs for that one too. It was the one that has a setup program and some cool diags and LLF utility built in.

I just realised the Phoenix BIOS ZIP on your site doesn't include the CMOS Setup program I linked in the first post. Maybe it's a useful addition?
