Okay, I was just thinking about how I can improve my site, and I thought it would be a great informational resource to have a timeline of computer history predating the 21st century. I want to continually build on it based on information people have here and my own knowledge and eventually make it as complete as possible. My plan is to start out collecting information from the early years (1970 to 1979) and get it as specific as I can, and then once I have a good list of events move on to 1980-1989, and finally 1990-1999. And after that I plan to start work on the really early stuff from as early as 1800 up to 1969. This includes information on mechanical computers, however the main focus is electronic computers. I understand this is no easy task, which is why I need your help. If you have any events regarding computing history such as a product release, an important part of the development of a product, or an important milestone in a company that developed computers during one of these time periods that you think is important, interesting, or just belongs on the timeline, please do not hesitate to contact me either via PM or just this thread. Here are three examples of events I will have on the timeline:
August 12, 1981: IBM PC announced
November 23, 1983: Microsoft Windows demonstrated at Fall Comdex 1983
May 31, 1985: Steve Jobs fired from Apple
Currently, my preference is historical events from 1970-79, because this is the period I know the least about, however I will gladly accept information from any of the previously stated time periods. I'm especially interested in pieces of information from people that might have been working at a computer company back in the day and remember little facts that are not the common knowledge, because I believe this is what will give this project character and prevent it from being a boring timeline with nothing but facts that could be just as easily found on Wikipedia. Although it will have all the standard information too, it just won't be limited to that.
