Any experts on TCP/IP configuration in System 7? I've got a new Asante Maccon in my se/30.

In System 7.1.1 Ping, HTTP (port 80) and FTP (port 23) work without issues. Other apps (IRC, Gopher, Telnet) do not work and give me errors about servers not being found. The same telnet client that won't telnet to port 23 on sdf.org *will* telnet to an HTTP server and all me to manually GET a webpage, so it's not the client, but something about the ports.

Here's the kicker, though: it's not a local network or ISP thing, because I have plenty of other vintage machines with the same settings that work for telnet and irc, *and* the same apps work on the same machine without issue when I use PPP and connect through SLIRP. Also, a fresh install of 7.1.1 with Open Transport has all of the apps working without issues, so there's clearly something about MacTCP that is wonky.

I tried reinstalling, thinking that some of the software I had installed to make PPP happen borked the config for the network card, but it behaved the same. Someone on IRC suggested that MacTCP may not like the 10.0.1.* network, but again, it works on that network with PPP.

Open Transport is working for me now, but I want to try and figure out what's going on with MacTCP so I can get it working on System 6, and also because it has a smaller footprint. Any thoughts or ideas?
