We also require that you select a delivery option before posting your listing. This will hopefully help us streamline the things that get listed for sales here and help local people better advertise their items, especially for local only sales. New sales rules are also coming, so stay tuned.

I have a NeXT Cube, model N1000, that I'm finally getting around to selling. I'm entertaining offers on this system since I'm not sure what the market is for these right now. This particular system comes with a NeXT laser that does not work (the mechanism gearing was cheap and has long since failed, but it looks nice) and a NeXT-branded external SCSI CD-ROM. The Cube itself is in working order except for the magneto optical drive, which hasn't worked since I acquired it (common problem). The monitor is showing signs of dimming, but it is still usable. I can't test it, but I believe I did check in the past that this particular cube is "non-ADB." It has to use NeXT keyboards and mice, included of course.

The system currently boots into Openstep 4, but I will pull the drive before handing it over since it has personal files on it. It is populated with 28MB RAM and a brand-new motherboard battery. I also have some software on floppy (computer doesn't have a floppy, though...) and some NeXT CD-ROMs with it. The computer came with a NeXT sound box, which is useless for this machine since it doesn't have a NeXT Dimension board; it is included as well.

Computer is available for local pickup only about 10 miles west of Cleveland, Ohio. Any sale will be via cash in person.

Surprised there was no interest in this. Not sure what to do next. I suppose craigslist or ebay are options, though I really wanted to avoid an auction.

The lack of price certainly is a barrier. I'd love a cube, but I'm not actively searching. If you had a number which was reasonable, I might be tempted to pull up a map and see what a road trip would entail...

I’d check the prices on eBay and price below those prices, do a little research on eBay.

My guess the main reason for the lack of interest is due to the following: "local pick-up only" and "currently boots into Openstep 4, but I will pull the drive before handing it over since it has personal files on it".

Just consider this machine no longer available. I'll probably part out some of it on ebay and throw the rest away eventually. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Maybe due to it being local pickup only? I would have jumped on it (I have a literal ton of NeXT gear), but not local. If you do part it out keep me in mind for the case/power/backplane. In any case best of luck on whatever you end up doing with it - would be a shame if you do need to part it out.

Why not state a price at which you’d be willing to ship it? Even without shipping it yourself maybe someone here could facilitate.

People are a lot more receptive when you specify a price rather than making it a silent auction. For all we know everyone PM'd you offers and they were all rejected.

Also hanging a threat of just parting it out because it's "not worth my time" wins you no extra points. Have fun on ebay.

Yeah, the problem is it's good to have a starting offer on the thing. $200? $500? Let's try to figure it out.

A good running NeXT without NextDimension would probably get $1,000 on Ebay let's see:
$950
$800
Something under $700
$2650
$800.....

but then as a seller you have an automatic $200+ in "fees", and you'll get a form to put it on your taxes (which of course you should pay anyway, of course of course).

Cash and carry would have a discount, so probably $600. Driving from MD to Cleveland is probably an 8 hour drive each way so I'd need to book a $200 hotel and $200 gas...... Cheaper to pay a k on Ebay and the seller only gets $800 and still ships the thing.

It gets complicated.

@PrintStar I am interested in the soundbox if you are willing to part it out, which I think you might since you mentioned it is useless with this system.
