New England NOS Green 753 Laptop

Covers: Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine.
I entered the BIOS with it working and recognizing the CPU properly just fine BEFORE I started swapping all the parts around, so it's clearly something I did. I'm probably going to buy another CPU just to rule that out, then install a CMOS battery if that doesn't solve it. If neither of those work, I have no clue.

Let me know what you want, I have a decent collection of socket 7! Perhaps we can do a trade...

CPU that's in there is a 75MHz mobile Pentium (socket 7), it's compatible with 90 and 100MHz mobile pentium chips as well. I was thinking about getting one of the two faster options. HAS to be a mobile version (P54LM). It does support a 75MHz desktop chip (P54C), but I don't want to get one of those for a few reasons.

That’s a good idea actually. I’ll go do that real quick.
Another issue is that the G751’s heat sink is mangled and doesn’t make proper contact with the CPU. I’ve gotta find some solution for that or it will eventually overheat. I feel like it can’t be that right now as it WAS working with it completely missing. Heat sink was separate in the box, and only one of them unfortunately. I’ll have to figure that out.

I thought there were two heatsinks. I really didn't do much with the working unit other than see that it booted and that it booted to DOS with an old 2GB HDD. I have some NOS MP968 heatsinks that maybe could be made to work if there's room. It the size of a Socket 7 CPU and has a cooling fan on top. They stick to a CPU with doublesided sticky metal tape. I don't know if there's place to pick up power in a Green 751. I'll have search and find them if you think it's a solution.

I really don’t quite get the heat sink design - it’s similar to the G753’s with a plate under the keyboard with a heat sink and copper pipes attached, but it only attaches via one screw, all the way to the left. This screw had been ripped off instead of being screwed off, and so the whole plate is somewhat bent out of shape. It doesn’t appear like it’s making contact. What I don’t get though, is that I feel like it wouldn’t make good contact even with the screw and an un bent plate. It really seems like a bad design!
I’ll have to figure something out, it’s gotta be possible. Don’t think there’s a whole lot of room for a heat sink and fan in there though. I’ll post some photos in a bit.

Here’s the inside of the Green753 battery. This one has leaked but looks save-able. Problem is that it DOES have a proper BMS on it so there’s a solid chance it can’t be rebuilt.
4/3A cells.

I can't help with the battery design, something I've never messed with myself. Meanwhile, I'm digging through a couple of more boxes full of laptop batteries looking for more Green 753 batteries in the hopes of finding a couple more.

My problem of the day, once again, is eBay shippers that don't know how, or don't care to know, how to package laptops to survive shipping.

I saw a Trogon labeled Green 753 on the site and made an offer that would allow me to rebuild it as long as it arrived as shown. You might wonder why I wanted a used one when I have new ones. Parts. Or if lucky a working laptop. What I really needed from it was the LCD lid to not be damaged and the hopes that the rest of the case would be as shown in the auction. It looked near mint. Worse case then would be to slap a new motherboard into it and pray that the LCD wasn't bad. But not to be. It arrived with the LCD plastics damaged, the latch broken off too. The upper and lower main case in pieces. I tried to power it up, but no boot. I lifted the keyboard and noticed that there was no CPU installed and it was missing the heatpipe CPU cooler plate too. So at best now it is a working LCD, but no lid plastics. Plus an unknown condition motherboard and two drives. I knew it didn't have the hard drive caddy, but I'm hoping that if I ask one of you guys that you could 3D design a new replacement design caddy using a CF card. Just need to find the connector to mate with the motherboard. I think there's a real need for caddies plus batteries.

But in the case of the damaged Trogon, I'm asking for a refund. Crap.

I might try to pick that one up if I get my refund. I'm trying to rebuild my test jig that I once had for working on G753/753+ laptops. I want a lid assembly to use for motherboard testing that I can later on stick onto a used laptop. I have dual scan lid I can use, but it's currently part of a working laptop and I was hoping to find a TFT lid to replace it. The missing latch is a PITA for me since I don't have spares. Maybe someone would make a STL file for me and I can print a few? I'm not up on CAD design.

Okay, the boxes I needed to be able to ship out dead Green 753 batteries arrived. ST251 are you still interested in a laptop plus a dead battery? I'm going to ask for shipping cost plus $3 for packing materials and I hope to get all these out to the people that have expressed interest. If someone can produce new batteries that would be great!

On a more personal plus, after receiving a Green 755 and a Trogon sold Green 753 both destroyed by poor shipping by two sellers (both refunded by eBay) I received a NEC Ready 330T (Green 756) from an eBay seller that packed it well. It needs a replacement LCD (on order), but other than a damaged bezel caused by the same issue that damaged the LCD prior to me buying it the laptop appears near mint. It shows post screen, but doesn't boot to DOS/Windows. I've got to hook up an external monitor and see if there's a hard drive installed later today. I'm planning on some follow on thread posts regarding the Green 755 and the a second one on the Green 756 and their Micron/NEC versions. The 755 and 756 share a few parts with each other and so does the Green 735. Mix and match part swapping by AlphaTop.

Wow.... I hate it when stuff gets poorly packaged... I've had 2 items that way. One from AliExpress, lucky it was easily fixed, and other Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive model, box damaged, kit seams ok..

As soon as I have one, will start work on it. Seams like good project to use my Rigol osciloscopes on. Lol VERY easy pin out diagram lol
