Removing second Ethernet from AIX

I have an IBM F50 server with AIX 5.1 installed. It has two Ethernet interfaces, one built in, the other on a card.

On boot-up, I have to have both of them plugged in, or I find that every alternate access attempt fails. i.e. ping once and get a reply, ping again and get a fail.

I assume that this is for some kind of fail-over or performance boost thing, but it is dreadful really, and I want to go back to one Ethernet port only.

Anybody on here know how they step-by-step me through it?

Paul.

Oh boy, it has been a long time since I worked in AIX. Do you have smit / smitty installed? Sometimes it is easier to look through menus to find what you need.

I've got many AIX 5.1 systems here, most of them are 44P/270 systems, all of them with two Ethernet ports - one built-in, one on a PCI card. There shouldn't be any problems with that. Plugged in or not. As tingo suggests, try to work them via smit or smitty, that's the best way to ensure that the object database is properly updated as well.
Unfortunately I won't be able to assist much - going on vacation in a few hours.
