  • From now on we will require that a prefix is set for any items in the sales area. We have created regions and locations for this. We also require that you select a delivery option before posting your listing. This will hopefully help us streamline the things that get listed for sales here and help local people better advertise their items, especially for local only sales. New sales rules are also coming, so stay tuned.

A few days ago I posted a wanted ad in this forum. Yesterday some douchebag that goes by the username “WhitePrinter” contacted me via DM (he did not reply here in the public forum), and asked me to contact his friend “Dave” who he said has such a card. I emailed Dave and he replied back with a picture of the card and we negotiated a reasonable price. Everything seemed so legit that I actually went to pay via PayPal, but the transaction would not go through. The email that then followed, totally gave away that it was a scam attempt…

Ah yes. We get that style scam here every few years.
Like most people I have seen hundreds of scam messages over the years, but this one actually got me… I suppose it was the combination of being on this forum (which I did not think anyone would target), and the fact that he replied with a genuine looking picture of a rare card (a picture I had not come across before on the web). Thankfully PayPal blocked the transaction and saved me…

I had the exact same experience with the same person "Dave". He used eBay photos to try and scam me.

I should say it was the same username WhitePrinter that PMed me to email his friend Dave. Whiteprinter needs to be banned to prevent this from happening to other members.

Huh it's quite funny who they're trying to steal from. Computer people that instinctively detect these low-effort internet scams.

Definitely weird first 10 posts
No kidding, I noticed a lot of one word responses. They created their account in April 2024 and have 10 posts already. I created my account in September 2023 and only have 8 posts counting this one and there are a couple I feel guilty for not being interesting enough, including this one.

Has anyone reached out to an ADMIN directly? I dont think this type of thing is something we should sit on considering this scammer has been here a month and tried scamming at least two people.

Does anyone have any idea how PayPal knew this was a scam? That's impressive.

ID like to know what the email said as I was a victim of a vintage computer scam over a month back and paypal didnt have a clue; I had to go through the typical claims process.

seems like PayPal should have an escrow service - where you submit your money but the seller doesn't get paid until you sign off on receipt.
