Has anyone bought one of these Tandy Smartwatch+ units from here? Do they only work with Tandy machines? I know my IBM XT had a very similar device inserted between between the board and 32K system ROM chip, but that didn't have a provision for a battery.

The seller is a member on the forums here. Looks like a pretty straightforward DS1216 design. I'm sure it's not limited to Tandy applications.

I wouldn't have thought so. The one in my XT had a 1987 datecode on it, and I know I have seen ads for similar devices in the past.

Yeah, any of the originals will have dead or near-dead batteries. It's possible to cut into the originals and splice in a battery. The version you linked is considerably cheaper than the Apple-targeted "No Slot Clock" modules available from other places online.

You can find Dallas Smartwatch modules on eBay, I wouldn't buy one of those unless you plan on cutting into it and splicing in a new battery. They haven't been made in many years and the ones listed on eBay will almost certainly fail in under a year.
