Some weeks ago I started to fix a TU56, that had a bad capacitor. Then I used the drive to dump several tape images I had in my basement, I used the tu56 with the TD8E controller. I had to change some cards in the TU56, because it came with a TC08. Then I started working on the TC08. Cleaning the FlipChips, the backplane, rack and power electronic. This was straight forward and now it was time to assemble everything. First I had some trouble with cabling, because the marking on the cable was wrong. And to find out from the paperwork how to cable the pdp8/e took me some time.

After some troubles with the Maindec TC01 BASIC EXERCISER I noticed a faulty FLIP CHIP in the TU56 and a bad M111 (B6) with 2 defect 7400 in the TC08. After that the Maindec started and after a while I understood how to "programm" this Maindec.
The MOITION test was OK, but the SEARCH tests not. In the papers that came with the machine I found some pages of "FIELD SERVICE TECHNICAL MANUAL" "ADJUSTMENT FOR DECTAPE SYSTEMS - FAMILY OF 8". That helped me a lot, because there was a list of pins and signals to measure and adjust the timing.
After I did this, the MAINDEC SEARCH test was OK. I couldn't wait, stareted OS8 diskserver and I was able to read a tape. It als boots.
So this is the video I made yesterday:

The tape I used does not use CCL.SV. So it boots very fast. There is only PIP.SV, UWFOC.SV and PFOCAL.SV on it. No other binarys. How do I find out what this system is? PIP is only 9 blocks and does not show anything with /V.

Have fun
Volker
