Using XP

I'm using Mozilla on the XP machine and have dabbled in others but Mozilla gets it donE for searches and download support for my XP machine. Don't bother with it for much else. I don't know of any XP browsers that support secure or HTTPS for this old OS and that's a shame.
Thanks - I will check it out on my old XP rig!

Microsoft has made it increasingly difficult to find older updates and software on their website over the years by constantly shuffling things around, but most of it is still available going back to the XP era at least.

The land mines are "web install" and "express install" where the update is a downloader that references a long removed location, or if it still exists, doesn't work because the OS doesn't support modern SSL/TLS and fails.
Very true.

.NET Framework isn't needed to run imgburn or duplicate a CD. I'm going to say that OP had autorun enabled and by inserting the CD inadvertently started some program on the CD that displayed the message about needing .NET.

BTW, the latest browsers for XP are roytam1's Serpent and Newmoon, MyPal 68, or perhaps one of the Chrome ports which I have not used (Supermium, XP Chrome, X360). There is also a root-certificates update around which can help with https stuff.

The OP did not have 'autorun' enabled as this is a fairly new build. There was no program(s) on the CD as it was new. Loading Net 4.0 was a no brainer and everything works fine with ImgBurn.

This is a quote:
"Autorun is a Windows feature that can automatically run a program located on an external source (like a CD, USB drive, or network drive). It does this by opening the “Autorun. inf” file without telling you. It does not inform you that it's going to run anything".

I use Mozilla and it works fine for me. This box is not my daily driver and is a XP gamer. It only goes on line, rarely, for some drivers or updates, etc.
