Hi all,
I just bought a "Cardco" Vic-20 printer interface. It seemed to be in pretty good condition, but I just noticed that it's missing the small connector that I think hooks up to the cassette port. (The part that connects to the small wire). The wire is there, but the connector apparently broke off and is missing. I was wondering, what purpose does it actually have, and is it possible to get a printer to work with the Vic-20 without that connector? If it is necessary, how is it supposed to connect to the cassette port and could I just make my own connector? (It's strange that there is only 1 wire). I have a parallel printer that I want to try hooking up to the Vic-20.

Thanks for any suggestions!

The pinout is the same on the top and the bottom for the datasette connector, just solder the wire to the pin shown below and would could be good. There are even 3D print models for the datasette connectors if you want something easier to put on/remove.

Ok, so that wire needs to make contact with pin B? Just wondering, how does it complete the circuit since there is only one wire? Does it make the connection to ground somewhere else through the other DIN cable?

I think it uses the ground on the serial port, but you may want to double check, if you find a PDF of the manual or schematics of the device it should confirm

Ok, thank you! I do have the manual, I just haven't had a chance yet to take an in-depth look at it. I'll post an update if I get the printer to work.
