I'm looking for a cheap, straight pinned, 3600 that will POST. Mine is toast and I need one for several X370 motherboard projects which have the basic un-stepped BIOS.

I have a curious question, My cpu (ryzen 1600AF) I believe just died as well. What symptoms did you get? Mine has the CPU light on solid, and cant make heads or tails if its the motherboard or the cpu.

The Athlon 3000G might be what you're looking for for a cheap Zen+ based CPU to allow BIOS upgrades for boards without flashback support. It also has integrated Vega 3 graphics so no need to install a video card.

I have one around here that's not in use...

I was using it on an x370 board with a dead memory channel as a cheap Linux disk-to-disk backup server, but I had an HP USFF with a 2400GE die (bad motherboard) so that's in there now.

I'm thinking going to buy a cheap Athlon to test the board, and see if it is indeed the cpu (which could be since I had it at 1.4V, oc'd to 4.3ghz). Its that or I buy a used combo on eBay.... Wish there was an easier way to figure out if it is the CPU or Mobo that crapped the bed. Tried using a post card and still no life. Motherboard see's the ram (yes I tried just 1 stick, and cleared the bios dozens of times), and leds light up showing banks used. So thinking maybe it is the CPU. If anyone has an old chip they could toss me for testing, much appreciated. Not used to a situation where I even have to consider the CPU died, in a modern machine. Usually its the motherboard. Sadly I don't have any spare AM4 CPU's to test with. Very willing to trade for something that just help me diagnose whats going on. Guess today will dust off the old AM3+ rig, so at least I have something... recently was laid off so have to watch the budget. :\ I do have a ton of vintage stuff I can use to trade with nonetheless. Sorry if I am taking over your thread Agent. Just figured it get you more attention, and could use your help as well...

Motherboard is a MSI x470 Gaming Plus MAX. CPU on status leds is solid on, as if the CPU isn't even inserted (same behavior). Tried to do BIOS recovery with 0 luck. Swapped GPUS and power supply as well.

Mine has "unrepairable" broken pins.

No longer needed and thanks for the reply. I now have a X470 mobo and my 5900X works okay. "twolazy" says he may need a new CPU.

Many thanks AJ, my son said he will test my CPU this weekend. I'll let you know either way...

So CPU was tested as good. Sadly kid bent a pin on his 5800X swapping cpu's, but luckily dad was there to save the day (Man those pins are tiny! Exacto knives and jewelers lenses are your friends.) .

What would you want for the 3600X? At this point be a nice upgrade, and not just a waste of money (Given have to most likely upgrade/replace the motherboard anyways. Upside kid gave me 32gb ram out of his machine, its a long story but his machine lives after a few hours of looking dead as well. Later end AM4 is a terrible platform to diagnose I'm learning...

Have a ton to trade if that's what you are looking for (Even a boxed NABU that just tested and sealed back up). Can even throw in the 1600AF and 32gb ram into a trade. Not sure if you want just money or trades but interested either way.

Anywho, today going to throw his old ram in (much faster, and maybe XMP profile will jar the board CMOS from acting bricked) and try a few different things. Looking like motherboard died. 3 months out of warranty. :\

Sigh, I have never had luck with MSI boards.

Ended up being ram. Figure I update. Could be worse, but not sure how both sticks died at the same time...

I've had 6 sticks go bad at the same time. Also had 4x2 DIMM kits be bad out of box back to back from Fry's.

I don't buy Crucial and Patriot memory anymore.

Same here, I used to love their high performance RAM. They started going to hell in the DDR2 era. I switched to G.Skill and haven't had an issue since.
