What do you do with your old computers?

What kind of use do you give to your old computers?? (if any)
I myself like to try old software, games and sometimes writing programs :D

Well when I can - which isn't very often, I might play a game
on my Amstrad or do a little programming for it (mostly use an
emulator for that though). If you could call a Pentium-based
Computer old - then I use mostly my DOS Emulators for that -
or play a DOS game. Other PCs in my 386 based systems, I do
all sorts of different things with various OSes - which
include Writing & using programs in CP/M-86 v1.1, I use the
internet on the same computer in DOS.

I'm still pluggin' away at trying to teach myself 8080 assembly language (and just a smidge of 6800). Then there's a few games, and some other more boring stuff.

So I was not the only one who thought that, I wanted to stick it in his face that YES, I do use ALL my old machines for something. That's one of the things that sets me off the most, and how I got into this hobby in the first place, was dealing with salesmen and "uppity" "keep up with the joneses" computer geeks. I got rather tired of hearing from people "oh, just buy a new one", "oh, just get a new computer", "oh, just buy a new this" "buy a new that"........and the whole time I was just a poor high school kid desparate for ANY kind of computing power to get my hands on.

Thankfully, I was out looking for a PCMCIA LAN card for the Thinkpad today, and nobody once gave me crud for looking for a 16 bit card for it. If anything they were actually supportive......which is surprising, the Northwest is more technically advanced than the goody-arrogant southern state of which I moved from, and they don't even bat an eye about buying odd old peripherals for an aging machine. Obviously I moved to the right place.

Well, I always hate to be wrong about these things - it was
just a feeling I had about this poster. They have only posted
that message & I just had the feeling they were one of those
what's the point sorts - in the way they typed their message.

At least this thread is a little bit more open & supportive to
favour the Vintage Computer Scene - the other one could have
been knocked up by some kid doing his High School assignment
or something. Who knows?
