These cards have been out of production for a while, go check out https://www.lo-tech.co.uk/wiki/Lo-tech_XT-CF_Board it's based on this project.

I highly recommend the lo-tech XT-CF cards, I'm using several of them myself. But in their current incarnation they don't come pre-assembled, they don't even come as a kit but rather as a bare PCB. You have to find and buy all components separately, and solder them (easy as they're mostly through-hole).

The CPLD as applied in that particular board is not up to snuff and tends to have problems or fail in a fairly short time. This has been confirmed to me by James Pierce here. The card I have (with that CPLD) failed in a reasonably short period of time after only relatively infrequent if not extremely limited use. This is definitely not a recommended model.

However this model https://www.lo-tech.co.uk/wiki/Lo-tech_ISA_CompactFlash_Adapter_revision_2b uses only TTL logic and no CPLDs, has no problems at all.

I have several of those as well...great units, and easy to solder together as they are all through-hole. That was one of my first soldering projects of that size, and it worked out just fine. After I did one of those, I moved on to an XT-IDE rev2...no big deal. To those who are afraid of soldering stuff like that, and that was somewhat me at one time, I taught my 7-year old daughter to solder together a small ebay "electronic dice" kit just the other day...she did a great job...I was impressed. If she can do it, so can you. :) Though I do recommend a decent soldering station - look up the Yihua 936 (like $20 from Hobby King) if you want something decent and cheap...get a chisel tip (works much better than the small pointed one that is included) and you're in business. Now, if vision and such is an issue, I can understand, and in such cases, I retract my statements...otherwise, give it a shot! It's a great feeling of accomplishment when it works.
