Zeos laptop hard drive

I managed to score a zeos notebook 386 from a recycler...but someone ripped the hard drive out..
No big deal its just an ide based drive but it has a special ide to flexible cable for zif slot.
Any idea of how to find one or better yet attach a cf to ide adapter? I thought about cutting and soldering flat cable to main board but i have no idea of how to figure out anything past power anf ground
 
Does the ZIF connector have close to 40 pins? If so, there’s probably not an IC on the flex cable (unlikely for a 386, anyway), and likely the pin out is pretty similar to standard IDE. There are a bunch of grounds, so that should be a hint to the pin out:

I cant tell...the connectors look like 2 white rectangles with a liftable latch but I can't see the internal pin themselves.
 
Two connectors of 34 or 40 pins? Used as two connectors or combined? Both take flexible flat mylar cables?

From what limited info I found I believe its a 40 pin standard ide to a flat cable that spills into two connector ends similar to Mylar i think?
 
Hello New2vtgpc; I had a Zeos 386 laptop many years ago that I got rid of when the display failed. If I remember correctly, my Zeos had a 20Mb
or 40Mb hard drive with the mylar connector you are talking about. I removed the hard drive when I got rid of it and I believe this is the
mylar connector it had.

Kinda...the flat end is split into 2-22pin connector. The bios said the last one installed was a 20mb.
 
Oh, so std. IDE at one end and two (2) 20 (?) contact zero insertion plated contact mylar at the other end. That's going to be very hard to find, IMHO.

Thats what im afraid of.... My idea is to take a standard ide cable, cut and strip each of the 44pin wires and slowly verify pinout and connect to mainboard and hope for the best

I'll guess the extra 2 pins per connector most likely are extra grounds. Perhaps ground and +5V? But that's just a guess. I have some mylar cables for CD drives, none have IDE connectors, that I was thinking would help bring out signals for easy measuring, but 22 pin mylar ones will be SOL.
 
You might think about replacing the existing connectors on the mobo with a pair of ribbon cable connectors and then signal trace the pins and make a IDE ribbon cable with mating twin connectors at the mobo end.
