I haven't compared the two physically but the bus speeds seem to in theory not rule out cross-compatibility.

I got a 6500 today that I plan to part out and I'm wondering if there's any value in keeping the 6500's processor card - probably novelty value since I think I have the 300 9600 and not the 233 which would make it at least a potential speed upgrade.

The 6500 was out of the Performa line, and uses a 603e, very much a lose compared to the 9600.

No I know. And my 604e is faster than the 603e anyway. But is it possible?

Or if you must... could I put the 604e in the 6500?

I didn't think the 6500 had a processor card. IIRC the CPU is soldered to the logic board, while the 7200-9600 use a daughter card.
