There is still a mountain of stuff left at Computer Reset, especially in the warehouse. LGR posted a new video about it today, including lots of footage of the inside as it looks now. The estimate is that only 60% of the initial inventory has been taken.

Look in the description of the video for how you can get to shop the liquidation at Computer Reset before it is closed forever.

I'm not affiliated with LGR or Computer Reset. I just want to do what I can to get as much of CR's stuff into the hands of people who would use it, instead of it being scrapped.

I'm not sure what to say about the Dremel and paperclip jab.
That was kinda unexpected, then again so was the Apple I gag.

Otherwise it looks about what I expected and it's been almost entirely stripped clean of anything major with the remaining items either set aside for future collection or its peripherals or name brand machines in poor condition.

Still wish I was that way... Im a huge collector in 486/Early pentium stuff, seems to be a ton of it still. But you are right, all the rarer stuff is gone. Wife gave me the thumbsup if I wanna go, but I really dont feel like driving to Texas from Chicago in winter lol.

I know one of these years I’ll need to reset my nostalgia bar to a more recent level, but, honestly, those heaps of late 90’s Dell and IBM machines still just feel like e-waste to me. But more power to anyone who wants to give them a loving home.

yeah that apple 1 gag had me thinking WTF.

Im glad the 8 bit guy could laugh at it at this point but the whole thing was bizarre.. why didnt he just show up in the video?

Did anyone else think the $150.00 flat fee was super off putting? I did.

I just scanned through the video so I missed the price. And whatever jokes there might have been. (I usually like LGR but there's been so much drama about this warehouse it just shuts me down.)

Back when those piles were rich with 80's gold I might have happily paid $150 for as much as my car could carry, but of what's left? Pay me $150 and I'll haul that much to the recycler. Except for CRTs, they charge you to take those.

I seen a couple ATX desktop cases that looked nice (if the sharpee comes off) but not worth $150 let alone a trip down. To be honest if you had the space and time a van full of P2/P3 machines would be profitable in a few years at $150 a van. I missed the video where they mentioned the fee, but it makes sense for people to load up a youhaul for that price and hope for the best (resellers not collectors).

The video is in the first thread of this topic. Scroll up.

I'd still have fun with what is left there. If I could, I'd certainly grab up a lot of software... Who needs to be able to walk through their living room? :p Spanish PC-DOS 3.30? WW does not have that archived.

With shipping costs soaring out of this universe, $150 would be a bargain. Obviously they are trying to attract people to haul stuff off, not the casual collector.

I was pretty interested in the stuff that was left outside (terminals, monitors, etc. that they deemed "trash" and probably threw away... as seen in the first videos. The 8 bit guy did a video on a color monitor from that area. I dont care if stuff is dirty or rusty.. That stuff had value to me.

Yes. As much as I personally would probably feel challenged (from the images I saw of what was left) trying to fill my car with $150‘s worth of stuff personally interesting to *me* enough to bother, I’m sure that if you’re willing to fill a U-haul with pickings with the intention of reselling it you could easily get your money’s worth. Those Beige Dells and IBM Aptivas are “junk” in my eyes, but if they still have their CPUs and some RAM chips in them a dozen should easily cover the cost after being parted out.

That said those machines are pretty much the worst case scenario if you’re looking for parts interesting to gamers, which seems like the bulk of the late-90’s retro market. They’re not even going to have standard power supplies, let alone interesting graphics cards. (“Oh boy, another Cirrus Logic chip… and it’s soldered to the proprietary motherboard! And over here, a Rage IIc! Woot!”)

Im in the same camp as how I feel about this stuff. Pentium 4 stuff and newer (even later PIII) are still just junk to me. I give this stuff away. I know younger people who may have had a connection to it as thier first machine might find value in it.. but I really dont see alot of folks desoldering and repairing these mass produced Dell middle of the road crap computers. And I am sure some had voodoo cards but I figure by now someone has opened up most to look for that by now.
Its not worth the effort. If they really want to clear out.. let more people in (seems they were letting in 10 to 12 at a time. Let in 20 and charge them $50.00 and give them 2 hours, then repeat with the next group. Youll clear out faster. $150.00 is cost prohibitive, plus you need to rent or barrow a truck.

That said.. Those IBM GAS plasma displays that were "taped off", those would have made the trip worth it for one or two of them.

I was almost thinking of going there, but $150? Nope. If I found enough to justify that cost then maybe. But I will just stay here as much of this looks like garbage as someone else has already noted.

I wouldn’t go into that rat infested, black mold haven if you paid me. And I surely wouldn’t take anything back with me.

I saw both videos and wondered how a place like this can even operate legally.

Im sure its not completely legal, bringing in groups of outsiders.. But thats not really important at this point.

Have you never bought vintage computer gear from sketchy people? I have been to some pretty gross places to buy stuff... Some people live no better than animals. You just need to take precautions.. like burning your clothes before you go inside your home........

Folks, remember that what is going on here is a group of volunteers are helping to clear out a building that was home to a computer hoarder for many years.

The $150 isn’t going to make anyone rich, and helps to offset the very significant cost, in money, time and effort, that it takes to clean a place like this up.

Then they should ask for donations. As I doubt they are going to get much in $$ for the few groups they allow over the next week(s). I am sorry, but I would not pay $150 up front unless I was sure there was something there that I wanted. From the videos I don't see much that I would HAVE to have. Yes, I am sure scrounging
I would probably find something. But $150 plus the 8 hours and gas, just doesn't do it for me. They should just open it up and say Come and Get it. They'll get alot more cleaned out that way. I am sorry if I sound harsh, but that is how I feel.

I still think they should have hired an estate sale company from the start. It would be over and done with and a lot less work for the owners.

A lot of places Won’t accept electronics for auction, finding one that will and is able to get eyeballs to the auction is getting rare.
