I finaly got my Powerbook working, after a year or more of trying.

The problem is that now when it starts, it makes some beeps and then shows a floppy with an interrogation point on it.

Any clues on what the problem might be?

Thanks

This would probably fit better in the Mac subforum, but anyway: the question-disk icon is displayed when the Mac can't find a disk with System on it. Likely something has happened to the hard drive, so you'll either have to re-format and re-install from System floppies (or CD,) or possibly replace the drive altogether.

Original Windows disks are relatively easy to find, but Mac OS disks look impossible to me.

Is it possible to find them on Ebay?

Is there another way to find the OS?

You can download them for free (and legally!) from Apple. Search around for their system software archive. You'll need another Mac with a floppy drive to write them out to real disks though.

There are a few utilities out there to read and write 1.4 MB Macintosh floppies in Windows and/or Linux. But 800 KB disks are right out. Thankfully, every PowerBook has a 1.4 MB drive.

:D Thanks a lot.

I had no idea Apple did this.

Finally the computer is going to work again, I finally managed to get a new charger (the old charger only worked some times and would turn off suddenly).

I did manage to get a few 800k disk images written to disk on a PC with WinImage once. 400k didn't work and I don't think I ever tried any 1.44MB images, but the 800k images wrote fine in WinImage for me...

Sorry to bring this topic up again, but I have tried Winimage, and it didn't work.

I couldn't find till now a free program that allows me to write mac disks on windows.

But thanks for all of your help
