Please fix the PM system

I for one really appreciate your candor and demeanor on this, I hope that it is reciprocated by everyone who is frustrated with the update right now.

Right, so instead of actually fixing a problem that has been high priority for four months you are telling us to follow a locked thread which is a canned response.
No, you can tell us in here. There's a severe confidence issue right now.

The idea behind the announcement thread is that we can keep it as an outgoing info thread on the issue. It will be the best place to get any "behind the curtain" details about the issue. It is a way that we can remain both accountable and transparent to your with issues like this.

And yes, there is a severe confidence issue here right now, I get that, and I am working hard to put systems in place to resolve that. There will need to be some give and take from both sides to get back to where we all want to be on here.

I will not be posting detailed updates in this thread, but I will be on the look out for specifics that can help us fix this issue, and will ask follow up questions here if needed.

Whatever's been done seems to have made matters worse. Now, I'm getting email notifications with no messages showing up on my VCF mailbox.
So I'll reiterate: If you're trying to reach me, please send email to vcfblackhole (at) protonmail.com. (vol.2, this includes your message that I didn't get!)
 
Not PM related but threads I subscribe to are not showing me notifications of when a new entry is made. Not all my subscriptions just some. I unsubscribe and resubscribe but it does not change things.
 
I'll add to that one--the summary page (from a "new topic" search) doesn't always show the person who made the last reply, even hours later. Perhaps related is that if I post a reply and then, after leaving the page, then thinking a bit, want to add to the post, I can't find any mention of the post on my "profile" page. It can get to be something of a chore to locate one's last reply to a topic.
 
We will be working on the PM and email system, next week. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of some of these very frustrating issues.

@Chuck(G): I'd noticed ever since we, ahem, upgraded, that it can take up to 12 hours before an updated topic gets into the new posts list. Sometimes it's a lot faster but it isn't instantaneous.

Perhaps some of these things run on background scheduled tasks? But then again, what would I know.
 
Yeah, I know. Black boxes. The old forum displayed things promptly, which is adding to the confusion. I note also that the PM system here is less like an email setup and more like a chat room. Or so it seems to me.

That's normal now, all the major forums softwares do it. Just something to get used to. Some of them allow you to invite other people into your PM as well.
 
I agree with Chuck on it appears more like chat. Which is stupid. A messaging system would be better. The way the upgrade displays PM's is terrible. This is not a complaint, just an honest observation.

...and somehow, the old lists (e.g. cctalk) manage to stumble along quite well using email lists. Betcha the maintenance is just a fraction of the "major forums softwares".
