Hi,

I will be restoring a SPARCstation 2 soon and I am trying to locate all the documentation for it, however I am struggling to find the SPARCstation 2 Installation Guide (800-5035 or 800-5701), it is referenced in Field Service Manual and other files but I cannot find it. Does anyone know of a copy of this anywhere?

I don't think you need that guide. The machine will most likely work fine when you get it aside from a dead NVRAM. On the rare chance it does have a problem it will most likely be a major problem that that guide will not tell you how to fix. Sun hardware from the late 80s to the mid to late 90s was very reliable other than a few exceptions. I've bought half a dozen sparc machines off ebay in the last few year and almost every one of them just worked when I plugged them in.

You might find that the a replacement 48T02 nvram in that box might not work, as Sun boxes depended on an undocumented feature which was only present in older devices.

The fix is to go down the Dremel route rather than replacement route. (Hint: if you damage the 32.768kHz crystal - just solder another one onto the other pair of terminals.)

Here's the field service manual, direct from Oracle:

And, here is a module from GlitchWorks that will help you to replace the likely-dead internal NVRAM battery:
And here are the accompanying instructions:

Let us know how it goes!
