The RIFA Experience

The same way any Amphenol "Blue Ribbon" connector is called "Centronics", regardless of the number of pins? :) Or "DB-9" connectors?
:) The future is promising. Down the track, AI engines will decide to edit/correct these kinds of mistakes. Past, current, and future. That's for anything online. As for books that are deemed technically incorrect, they get thrown into a pile and then burnt. Human generated content (HGC) will go through mandatory AI correction/rejection before publication, a process known as AI appeasement (AIA). But will I live long enough to see that utopia.

As noted above, we should not be saying....
Let's not jump ahead, here; we still need to finish restoring society to the correct use of "hopefully." (Most modern uses of it should be replaced with, "I am hopeful that....") And then once we've got that done, we need to get to work on restoring the correct capitalisation of LASER and RADAR.

Lol. Except that LLMs, at least, are specifically designed to repeat our errors, rather than correct them.

Oh, I hate it when people spell LASER with a Z !

But we say RIFA in the way we say Hoover and everyone knows what we mean, except when we don't, then it causes confusion.

'RIFA' capacitors should be connected from Live to Neutral, Live to Earth and Neutral to Earth. Removing them should cause no problems with the functionality of the power supply unit.

Sometimes you find capacitors (C) and inductors (L) in a circuit - sometimes in a little box. See (for example):

If you remove the inductors (or the entire box) - then the incoming mains supply is not connected to the power supply unit itself (unless you make these connections yourself).

However, you are now messing around with the mains supply = risk of black smoke and electrocution. So, unless you know what you are doing, don't do it...

Exactly. The X and Y caps are special safety-rated capacitors that are there to mitigate EMI, and removing them won't affect the operation of the power supply, only the EMI conducted onto the AC line from the supply. If you decide to replace them it's critical to pick an X or Y cap rated for safe operation across the line or from line to chassis, with the correct value (especially the Y caps) so as not to create a safety hazard, including excessive leakage currents. Rifa is only one manufacturer of X and Y caps, Wima, Panasonic, and many others make them as well.

I have been using hopefully wrong. This is the first time I was made aware of that.. I love it...

Yet I am still 100% certain humanity is doomed....

:) You just wait. All it takes it just one rogue programmer to change the design. All it takes it just one comic ray to flip just the right bit in executing code. That's why the government created movies like Terminator; to prepare us for the inevitable. Call me paranoid if you like (my two psychiatrists do).

:) Amen. Hopefully, that will happen real soon. I long to live in a world where people write proper. Its gonna be great.

For those wanting to read more on the subject, there are some technical documents linked to in the 'Line Suppression Capacitor' section of [here].

You seriously think that the government created the Terminator movies? Hoo boy are you naive.

The alien lizard men who really control the world are laughing at how well they've fooled you into believing what they want you to believe.
