Vectrex Repair (another no buzz 3GE version)

Yes but is not visible the manufactorer, on top it have a PPN and value .01uF and .0022uF. PPN is a definition of polypropylene film capacitors, but i have used a polyester capacitors to replace the original, probably not goot for this applications!

The manufacturer is marked on the capacitors as TSC...

These are specialised capacitors chosen for their high stability of capacitance value and the dissipation factor (DF) when the temperature or frequency changes. You are well aware of the effect that a temperature change has on the capacitor. The frequency change arises as a function of the software that the Vecrex is running.

As a result, the capacitors have to be replaced with the same type as designed - otherwise the capacitance can change by quite an appreciable value if the signal frequency or ambient temperature changes, thus causing the integration time constant to change.

And this is the problem encountered ! Not correct caps used, my very big error, but now probably one of this have a problem, little but present. I don't find same parts! i have found on a shop polypropylene caps with same value, but i don't know if it works on vectrex!

Probably the wrong type then.

What I am trying to work out for you is what you NEED to order. NOT what you have that doesn't work...

In order to do that, I need to know what was in your machine to start with...

Have you thrown the old capacitors (that were originally in your machine) away?

Dave

No no ! I have reinstalled old capacitor and now the system is nicely good but not perfect, i have returned to the problem on post 59.

I have found orange type but forum not able to paste a ebay link.

The 'J' letter indicates the tolerance (I think) for this type of capacitor. 'J' is +/- 5%.

In the replacement integrator kit parts list I have seen both 2.5% and 5% used. Obviously, the closer tolerance capacitors (2.5%) are better / more accurate.

400V does seem a bit excessive (when compared to the original) which could mean that they have some undesirable characteristic when compared to the originals.

Dave

Well TSC still make the capacitors (see https://www.tscgroup.com/).

Products -> Film Capacitor Section

There is a P200 section that refers to page 3-82 and then the full Film Capacitor Catalogue at the top of this section.

It looks like page 3-80 is where to start.

Identify what you want (value, voltage, tolerance, size etc.) and contact TSC directly to see if you can buy them from somewhere.

If you only require a few capacitors, if you ask nicely they may just post them to you!

Dave

Ok i try to contact TSC and i hope the problem is on this capacitors, because ai don't have any other idea.

Thanks
