ok gang, I've crunched the numbers, and the cards come in at a total cost of $18.93 each. That's for a complete card, including the bracket. I'm going to round that up to an even $20.00, just to make things easier, and I'm sure that paypal will steal a few cents on the transaction too, not to mention the hours it will take me kitting everything up. Edit: Yep, Paypal is taking $1.03 for their "work" in this, so I am profiting exactly $0.04 per card. Wooo! retirement is just around the corner for me.

So here are the costs:
$20 for a card, in build it yourself, kit form.
$5 for shipping in the USA. In a flat rate, priority mail box.
I think I can put up to 4 kits into a single box, I don't think anyone ordered more than 4 at a time, so this should work well.

$15 for card assembly and testing. they take at least an hour each to assemble, not to mention solder costs and testing verification. I think that's reasonable.

I am going to be working through the spreadsheet and sending paypal invoices out, first customers will be USA residents who wanted kits, since I can start shipping those as early as tomorrow.
Assembled cards will trickle out as I get time to make them. I will have to handle overseas orders almost on a case by case basis to make sure shipping isn't too screwy price wise. I'll handle all the keyboard adapters, extra atmel parts and other odds and ends as they come up.
------------
I have contacted a half dozen people with paypal requests for kits; they are ready to ship. I have cleared email addresses of the people I have so far contacted out of the google spreadsheet to protect the innocent from spambots. I'm using that to know who I've contacted so far...

Finally putting myself on the spreadsheet.

I'm considering making a Youtube video of the assembly, and the first boot. It's about time I got the hot-rodded IBM XT "Half-Clone" up and running again.

I'd like to have one, but it lacks something: A power plug! Since the model 25 (model 30 too?) doesn't have any power plugs, the power has to be provided from the controller card. So until that's provided I won't be able to use an XT IDE card.

User Glitch here is going to be modding his to fit into the model 25. Using it with a CF-IDE adapter would mean you would only have to tack 5v and ground to your card to power it; should be easy!

I probably missed something but what's the bracket? and is it something most folks would want? I'm guessing it's the card bracket for the end of the PC but wanted to make sure. Do we add that to the spreadsheet or just PM you at this point?

Thanks for everyone and your hard work! :)

Brackets:

It's the kind of thing that you'd expect to be attached to any plug in card.
They are of note because they are *incredibly* hard to find in ISA flavor nowadays.
I managed to find a source for 100 of them, and they will be shipped with every card. There's a few people who had gen-1 cards prior to me locating this source, so I can finally get those shipped out now too. That's what the comment/notes field is for.

Updated ordering info. Paypal is really screwing me on fees, so here's the new ordering:

So here are the costs:
$20 for a card, in build it yourself, kit form.
$5 for shipping in the USA. In a flat rate, priority mail box.
$1 each additional card. (to cover paypal fees)

I have contacted everyone on the google signup sheet who is in the USA and wanted kits only, and whose email addresses were available.
Getting those kits out the door will help clear out my office and let me concentrate on the overseas stuff and building and testing cards.

I have farmed out the building of some cards to at least one person; he will be doing the same thing I am, just starting at the top of the google spreadsheet and working through contacting you individually for a purchase. We will get them all shipped as soon as we possibly can.

I responded to your PayPal request and eagerly await my kits! I sent you an additional amount which isn't enough to make you rich but maybe you can buy yourself a couple of cold ones on me. Thanks for your hard work on this!

I pluged in my soldering to get it warmed up to practice a bit tonight and it's frayed cord ZAPPED apart. The cord had to be 60 years old & so was the iron. I'm going to buy a new one tomorrow. The wife freaked, I told her thats what circuit breakers are for... Shee...sh.

An update for those waiting on assembled boards:
I have 6 boards nearly complete, they should be finished and on the road by this weekend.
I'll be sending you ppal invoices when your name comes up on the spreadsheet.

Other users here have offered to help build up kits, they should be posting here and then you-who-are-waiting can PM them and arrange all the details.

I'll be assembling 10 of the XT-IDE boards for resale -- PM me if you are interested in purchasing them from me. Same assembly+shipping charges as Hargle.

I realize I'm a relatively new face around here, so here's a link to my eBay feedback to verify that I won't run off with your money!

http://myworld.ebay.com/corenetnetworks/

Part of my job at work is the assembly of high-end audio mastering equipment, and I've been soldering for well over 10 years. These boards will be assembled using a Hexacon Select-O-Trac iron and organic core flux, cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, and tested in either my IBM PS/2 Model 25 or a generic XT-compatible 8088 clone. Also, if anyone wants a floppy-type Molex power connector added to their XT-IDE board, I'll tack one on for free. I'm modifying my card as such, so that I can use it as a HardCard with no external cabling with a CF card.

I do not have paypal, nor am going to be getting it. Is this going to exempt me from getting said cards?

honestly, it might.
I really need to distance myself from handling special case scenarios since I am solely responsible for virtually all the current aspects of this project, plus real life has occupied nearly every waking minute of my life at the moment. I don't really want to set cards/kits aside waiting for a check to arrive and clear and then chase after people if payment isn't made, etc. Handling it all through paypal makes life a lot easier.

When the heat dies down and if there are still some cards left, then yes, we can work something out offline, but it won't be until everyone else who is willing to pay with paypal gets theirs.

There is one other option: if you happen to be a wells fargo customer, send me a PM and you can wire money directly into my account without *any* fees. That's even better than paypal.

Just got my kit:clap: I feel like it's 1966 and I just got a heathkit to play with. Many thanks to all that had a part in making this happen. A special thanks to hargle. This forum has been a true learning experience and has brought back a bit of yesteryear and a lot of fun.

Yet one more option is if a PayPal-less person is good friends with a PayPal-enabled person, and thus can use that one as a proxy. I have bought and paid for a few items meant for friends of mine who don't do PP, and of course got reimbursed by other means. However you would need to tell Hargle in advance about your scheme.

well it would have been nice to know that before i put my order in. i am not going to risk having my personal information uploaded into paypal, which has been hacked in the past. that and the numerous bad experiences my proxy has had with them. i would like another option to purchase these cards. i would hate to be left out because of this.

Maybe that's your concern in general, I think you can do a one time payment via credit card through paypal without having an account now but I haven't verified that. One option could maybe be send a cashiers check or something to another member who has paypal and can have your card shipped to your address. A little bit of trust on both parties but then what online purchase isn't.

well, to be honest, we didn't know you had a problem with paypal either. This is the first "i refuse to use paypal" notice from anyone that I've seen.

i also didn't expect things to turn out the way they did. I wasn't supposed to be the guy who was kitting and shipping all the parts as well as handling the money and contacting people and virtually every other aspect of this project, not to mention the 60+ hour work weeks I've been putting in. I'm drained, and believe me, there are a LOT of people trying to get my attention right now.
shoot me a PM, I'll send you my address and you can send me a postal order for yours.
