    IBM 7552 Industrial Computer

Wow.. Gave one away at least 15 years ago... I LIKED the 7531 . I was the "IBM Industrial Computer Coordinator" (among other jobs) at an IBM Semiconductor factory site. Major dogfights over these Industrial versions VS things like PS-2 model 80's... And then there was blood over "Industrial...

    California IBM 5154 EGA Monitor

Wow... Just got the new caps to try to resurrect three 5154's. Usual "works 10 minutes then Zap-Smoke/ That's the easy one.. Now I have one Horizontal Jitter, and One Apparently Dead. A challenge! I do have the schematics etc... Now I have to tune my head, which was 55 years old in 1995 :-)

DALLAS DS12887A CMOS battery DEAD on Socket 7 motherboard: A FIX??

Thanks @Chuck(G) and @IBMMuseum ... Help me be 100% on what PINS are involved with the Dremel Surgery. The photo above shows a BIOS chip that is 28 pins. But the DALLAS chips are 24 pins. so I'm not sure EXACTLY what pins you have modified. Can you mark or number per this pinout...

DALLAS DS12887A CMOS battery DEAD on Socket 7 motherboard: A FIX??

QUOTE "soldering that chip in was the mark of a malicious vendor" Looks like PLANNED Obsolescence. Like "Buy my new motherboards in 15 years when this dies??" I'm just interested if this easy, No Soldering solution will stand up. My Dremel(s) are at the ready, usually for sharpening my...

DALLAS DS12887A CMOS battery DEAD on Socket 7 motherboard: A FIX??

Hi Chuck, Thanks.. your diagrams are great. It's pretty drastic to Dremel the module. In my case it's almost inaccessible right next to an ISA socket. This is different in using the "Clear CMOS" connection. IF this works for months with two AA batteries I'll be happy... I'll update my...

DALLAS DS12887A CMOS battery DEAD on Socket 7 motherboard: A FIX??

Hello Everyone, Many have had this dilemma; mine was worse because I have 3 HOT-555 motherboards with the same SOLDERED IN RTC CMOS CHip. Eventually I got one to work WITHOUT Soldering.. Take a look here: https://arduinoinfo.mywikis.net/wiki/DS12887A-DALLAS-RTC-DEAD Let me know if this works...

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

GOOD Point! M3 is the cable from the on-off switch. And M1 and M2 which would send all voltages to the main board are disconnected and can be test points. Thanks!

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

Yes that's a good description. I'll study the schematic some more. I do have a CRO (7854 Tek) but I have a handy small LCDO ;) At one point today after 5 Hr poweron it really smoothed out. Makes me suspect an electrolytic that reforms a little. Thanks for help thinking this through. OH...

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

Hi Vic, THANKS and I am digging into this today. Question: What jumpers did you need to power up the module separate from system? The schematic shows the main power switch is remote and there are 4 connections to it. Looks like 2 jumpers could route power from the power cord to it. Or 120V...

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

@modem7, THANKS for the pointers.... ------ "Just in case relevant later, can you tell if it is a horizontal collapse, or a horizontal shift? "No, it's a small deflection wiggle, worst at power on. There's a video here...

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

Hi, I have the "5154001" which is 120VAC nominal. I am less worried about the 30KV than the 380V Pulses in the power supply board. "One Hand In The Pocket" to quote my Dad, Fred King, who was Chief Engineer of WELI in New Haven, Connecticut for 40 years or so. Occasionally some adjustment on...

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

Thanks! Vic... Glad you wake up earlier than me... I will dig in again later today... I'm feeling better about my chances. OTHER: Someone somewhere referenced powering the power supply module on while removed from the rest of the display. Anyone have pointers on that?? I MaybeCould rig some...

    IBM 5154 Troubleshooting

Hi! I'm so glad to be able to connect with you people! @VintageVic I did see that thread and I will go over it again. The experiences others have had with real 5154's is invaluable for pointers to causes of symptoms. @modem7 I have experience with high voltage in broadcast transmitters and...

    IBM 5100 ROS arrangement

Hello Everyone, I can't add much to help here but I'm fascinated by your work on reverse engineering the 5100/5110. I had one on my desk for about a month in ?? Maybe 1975-76. I was evaluating it for use as a tester controller for new chips under development at the IBM site in Vermont. I...
