When trying to access PM Inbox, or when I try to send a PM, I get the following page with this message:

http://www.vcfed.org/forum/private.php

"Database Error Database error
The Vintage Computer Forum database has encountered a problem.
Please try the following:
Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
Open the www.vcfed.org home page, then try to open another page.
Click the Back button to try another link.
The www.vcfed.org forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience."

I tried on the following systems:

Desktop PC, Windows 10 , Firefox & Chrome
ACER laptop, Windows 10, Chrome

I don't know specifically what happened, but it looked like the site had a major crash yesterday and was restored from backup.

Just saying it might take a little while for everything to get sorted out.

The site went down last night at about 8:30pm ET. We immediately contacted the hosting company. The site was back online by about 5am ET. It was responding slowly for a couple of hours, but now it seems to have self-corrected.

Not really...

Have you tried any of these functions?

Try a PM

Try the Settings link.

Try pinging vcfed.org.

It also appears that external links to some posts go to the wrong place in some cases. And there are more than a few posts from late yesterday that are simply gone.

I notice that on my end as well. Also, some posts aren't on here either, which was affected by the crash of this site. The site was taking forever to load on my end, but got better after an hour. Sounds like everything will be back to normal once they get the site situated and recovering more of the posts and features on this site.

I attempted to click on Send a PM to a specific user, did the same thing, as well as the settings page, too. I'll ping the site when I get home.

Edit: pinged the vcfed.org site on my laptop and it shows that the host is reachable.

Bottom line is -- it's still heavily hosed. Numerous basic board functions are still broken or completely unavailable.

Is it me or does the "New Posts" section have the one with the 9" trinitron and the one with the Commodore PSU permanently stuck at the top.

We filed a new support ticket regarding the inbox and user settings.

Pinging the site works fine.

I can't get to the pm inbox either...
These selections are still unavailable to me:

General Settings
Private Messages
Edit Profile
Subscribed Threads
Friends & Contacts
Settings
User Control Panel

All of these selections currently present the Database error screen.

Yes, I'm seeing that too, here.

Everything seems to be working properly.

Kudos to all those who stayed up all night getting things to function again.

Yep, PMs are working again and I just received one.

From somebody wanting to buy one of my Displaywriter keyboards. That aren't for sale.

Thanks to all who worked on fixing things.

Glad it's fixed!

Woke up just now and saw an email from the hoster saying a database table was misassigned and it got escalated all the way to their CTO overnight.

Evan, the PM system is working again, but the VCFED.org site is still down for some people. For me it works here at work, but does not work for me at at home. It is not a DNS issue, as both places resolved to the same IP and they get ping responses.

You've still got some hosting issue there bud. Most likely to to do with whatever CDN your hosting provider is using.

For me, the VCFED.ORG page redirects to the VCF PNW page instead of the home page.
