Compaq Presario 5522

The memory is fine thank you. BSD just wasn't up to task on this particular system as Linux is holding up just fine and dandy.
I mentioned this in a thread I made about the BSDs on offering a while back.. FreeBSD as well as Midnight BSD wont install on my K6-2 400 testing system either. NetBSD and OpenBSD will run on that system.

As I've said before facts don't care about feelings

If anyones pet OS doesn't fair well with pics for proofin this thread just harden up and accept my results ffs.
;)

Puppy Linux 4.3.1 ran live and installed into the hdd without any problem whatsoever. There is a TON applications and tools to be used and fiddled with :). The Desktop interface will be very familiar with a LOT of user and very very easy to navigate, ALL the compact Compaq hardware was detected. A great choice for new Linux users. ;)IMG_20230508_121930.jpgIMG_20230508_121713.jpgIMG_20230508_121550.jpgIMG_20230508_121532.jpgIMG_20230508_110756.jpgIMG_20230508_110658.jpgIMG_20230508_110631.jpgIMG_20230508_110541.jpgIMG_20230508_110521.jpgIMG_20230508_110301.jpg

Thanks everyone for having look at this thread. I hope you'll have enjoyed as much as i have been making the post. Linux as a Computer Desktop Opporating System is a viable option despite what the anti Linux negative noddies post out there in WWWLand.

This is cool. Burning two CD-Rs at the same time Whilw surfing the interweb on mt P4 3.2Ghz day to day Linux Desktop System ;)

With 4Gigs of ram it is not even breaking a sweat.......IMG_20230509_045922.jpg

I was of the understanding Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 was the first MS Windows that installed just fine from CD. Well it was an EPIC FAIL!! on my compact Conpaq. A half a dozen different NT4 cds.IMG_20230509_185038.jpgIMG_20230509_185032.jpg

Yes folks the most maligned MS Windows EVER tops both NT based Windows AND the BSDs in the installation stakes on the 5522. It gets a well deserved Platinum Desktop Operating System Award tumping the so called superior NT based MS Windosw as well as all the BSDs in our known Universe.

So all you ME knockers go take a big jump off a HUGE cliff.

Yes reality is stranger than fiction and those facts of that reality definitely don't actually care about any ones feeling my wee prettys ;)

Ans yes thank you for asking. My beard and I absolutely enjoyed the ice cream very much.

NEXT!!!!!

The NT error is too big a partition. Set the partition to 4gb or less and should boot fine.

The HDD is less then 4gig lol. Sorry but NO CIGAR>><>>>>+

The Comnpag PrErario 5522 came out in the later half of 1995 preinstalled with MS Dos 6.22 and Windows 3.1 with a Wiundows 95 Upgade CD for goodness sake! iT DEFINITELY will NOT take HDDs larger THAN 4GAGATHINGYS my good man.

NT installations should take over the whole drive, first formatting it as a single 4gig FAT16 partititon then convert if to NTFS4 lol. It didn't so EPIC FAIL!!!! Windows 2000 tha same but NTFS5. Again EPIC FAIL!!!!

Windows ME grabbed hold of the HDD then formated it as FAT32 and installed on it without a hitch. 150% SUCCESS!!!

THAT HDD is a keeper an d I'll label it Windows ME.

Rain will not desolve you unless it has acid in it. And any way any day on a motorcycle is a good day!!IMG_20230510_095953_hdr.jpg

Have I mentioned yet that if Windows NT 4 has SP6 applied you can read NTFS5 volumes?

Oh and use the Windows NT 3.51 HPSF drivers to access Os/2 Warp volumes.....

WTF were all you Windows NT IT professionals doing at work? Playing tiddlywinks?

Weird question with the NT installs... Did you use the floppy set or just the CD-Rom? I recall having to use the 3 floppy set to prep the system for install.

I'm just using bootable cdroms as that is what I am interested in at the moment. on this particular system. Floppy disk installations from CD?DVD will come in to this thread a bit later on. W2k should have functioned without any effort at all. NT 4 should have done the same...

Early NT4 presses came with floppys. Later presses didn't. And no presses of w2k came with floppys as far as I know. You may be able to create them but it certainly wasn't the expected NORMAL way to do a FRESH installation.
